Aloinopsis malherbei is a compact and distinctive succulent, valued for its thick, fleshy leaves with a strongly textured surface, ranging from green to grey-green. The plant forms low rosettes close to the substrate, with a highly sculptural appearance characteristic of collector plants from the arid regions of South Africa.

The flowers usually emerge from the centre of the rosette and have a delicate appearance, creating a beautiful contrast with the robust foliage. It is a suitable species for mesemb collections, small pots and very well-drained mineral growing media.
