Sempervivum mix - Hen and Chicks Plant

Sempervivum, also known as “houseleek” or “stone plant”, is a genus of perennial succulents prized for their compact appearance and resilience to extreme conditions. It is ideal for rock gardens, rockeries, and pots thanks to its ability to retain water in its leaves and survive in poor soils.

Care requirements:

✔ Light: Prefers sunny locations. Intense sunlight enhances the color of its leaves. It can tolerate partial shade, but will grow more slowly.

✔ Soil: Requires well-drained, sandy or rocky soil. A succulent or cactus mix is ideal.

✔ Watering: Water infrequently, only when the soil is completely dry. It tolerates drought well, but overwatering leads to root rot.

✔ Temperature: Tolerates extreme temperatures, from -30°C to highs above 30°C.

✔ Humidity: Prefers a dry environment; high humidity can encourage fungal diseases.

✔ Fertilizer: Does not require frequent fertilizing, but can be encouraged with a weak succulent fertilizer applied once per season.

Common problems:

🔹 Soft, rotting leaves: Overwatering.

🔹 Failure to flower: The plant is monocarpic (it dies after flowering); new rosettes will continue growing.

🔹 Elongated, pale leaves: Lack of direct sunlight.

Height including pot: approx. 8 cm
