Clematis montana 'Marjorie' - pink-salmon, semi-double, delicate and fragrant flowers
Clematis montana 'Marjorie' is a vigorous and exceptionally beautiful variety from the Montana Group, prized for its delicate semi-double pink flowers and abundant blooms.
It is a fast-growing deciduous climber that can reach 6-8 m in height. The leaves are trifoliate and green, with bronze-red tones when they first emerge. The flowers appear in May-June (sometimes later than other Montana varieties), are large (6-8 cm), star-shaped and semi-double, with a pale pink-cream color that deepens to pink toward the center and darker inner petals (salmon-pink or purplish-pink). They have a light, pleasant, sweet fragrance.
Key features:
- Size: 6-8 m tall, vigorous growth
- Flower type: delicate semi-double salmon-pink flowers, 6-8 cm (on mature plants). They open white at first, then develop color.
- Flowering period: May – June
- Fragrance: light and pleasantly sweet
- Pruning group: 1 (prune after flowering)
- Hardiness: very good cold tolerance (down to -25°C)
Simple, practical care:
- Light: full sun or partial shade (head in the sun, roots in the shade)
- Soil: rich, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline
- Watering: moderate; keep the soil slightly moist
- Pruning: immediately after flowering (remove overly long or dry shoots)
- Support: pergola, fence, wall, arch or tree
An excellent choice for quickly covering pergolas, fences or walls. It produces a delicate pink cloud in late spring and is less invasive than other Montana clematis. It looks beautiful paired with other climbing plants or shrubs!
Note: During the cold season, garden plants are sold without leaves and cut back to encourage branching.
